Chicks 2016

Hard to believe we started taking baby chick pictures 8 years ago at the Mizell’s chicken farm.DSC_5047

It’s always fun to go up for the day, see the chicks and get in a visit with some of our favorites. DSC_5031DSC_5016

This year, DW & Adam got in on the action, since we went on a Sunday afternoon. DSC_5018

The girls were chick pros this year- even Annabelle was fine holding them. DSC_5038DSC_5064DSC_5068Tucker, on the other hand, wanted nothing to do with them. DSC_5024

After we tortured them with some pictures, we let the kids run around outside, jump hay bales, climb on the tractors and drink Gatorade & Cokes in the back of DW’s truck. DSC_5076DSC_5101

We all missed our Sunday afternoon naps, but it was definitly worth it.

Thanks, Mizells, for a fun Sunday afternoon!

First Grade Field Trip

This year’s field trip was to Wild Adventures in Valdosta.

We met at the school at 7:00 a.m. and made it to Georgia when the park opened. IMG_1315

The day started off a little bumpy, with the first ride. It was one of those roller coasters that looks like it’s going to fall off the tracks and was probably not the best one for AB to ride first. IMG_1322She screamed – she cried- and she insisted she was riding NOTHING else that day. Nice.

We convinced her to get on a few other things and she enjoyed those…IMG_1328

But there was no convinving her to ride the big coaster, Swamp Thing. Her two little friends rode it over and over and over and begged her to try it, but she wouldn’t cave.

We took a break for lunch, and walked around the dinosaur exhibit, which was so neat! IMG_1351IMG_1375IMG_1367

We rode the safari train and then saw the tiger show…IMG_1390

Walked through the animal exhibit, saw the alligator show, IMG_1507and the kids even held a baby alligator…IMG_1549

We went through the bird exhibit- it was so neat- all the little birds would land on you if you had food. IMG_1480AB wanted NOTHING to do with that. IMG_1498

After all the animal shows and exhibits, we FINALLY convinced AB to try the Swamp Thing. She loved it. We rode a couple times together and then the kids rode it by themselves. IMG_1601

We hit a couple more things again on our way out, made our gift shop stop and literally closed the park down. IMG_1623

It was such a fun day! IMG_1617

Color Run

Our school hosted a Color Run 5K as a fundraiser and it was so much fun!

We signed up to “run” – and by run, I mean walk, and we had a great time. IMG_0893

Annabelle’s Color Team:

Before the Race

&

After the RaceIMG_0888

Mamie caught a piggy-back ride with Nie-Nie for part of the raceIMG_0771

but she made sure she ran through all of the color stations. IMG_0769Those were her favorite- imagine that. ;)

I gave her a ride for the last leg of the race, IMG_0884and then she got down to cross the finish line with Grammy. IMG_0787

Pappy parked on the route and waved us on and Pop was waiting at the finish line for us, too.IMG_0798

Everyone celebrated at the “color party” which was just another excuse to get some more color on our clothes and in our hair. IMG_0805IMG_0830IMG_0852IMG_0894

It really was such a fun morning, and a great fundraiser. The only bad part was getting everyone home and cleaned up!

Sew Much Fun!

Annabelle has been interested in sewing for a while now. IMG_0355I knew it would make a great 4H project for her to work on this year, and I thought there’d be several other little Cloverbuds in our club who might be interested in sewing, too. So it made perfect sense to host a little mini-sewing camp for our club. IMG_0341We limited it to 6 girls (one was unable to come that day, so it ended up being 5), and it turned out to be a great number. I’d asked my mom to help me, and she recruited a retired school teacher she knows who loves to sew. With three of us leading the group, we had plenty of adults to help the girls.

My parents bought Annabelle her own sewing machine for Christmas and a couple of the other girls had their own machines, too. I’d set up our machines for the ones who didn’t have thier own, and paired them at three tables. IMG_0357

We held the camp on our sunroom, and to hide the Barbie loft and our exercise equipment, I set up a little backdrop. It was also a great spot for our little fashion show pictures when the girls were all finished with thier sewing projects.

We started out with the basics and I’d made each girl a packet with diagrams, information, and practice sheets in it. IMG_0199

The girls were itching to get started!IMG_0312 After a few practice stitches, we started on their project, which was a simple skirt. IMG_0333I’d chosen this, becuase I knew the girls could enter them into the Suwannee River Fair and participate in the fair’s fashion show with them.

We took a break for lunch, when DW got there with our Chick-fil-a nugget tray.

That was a huge hit and I think the girls may have enjoyed lunch as much as they enjoyed sewing. IMG_0373

After lunch, we finished up the skirts, which turned out adorable. The girls are all 7 and under, and I was proud of how great they did. IMG_0383

We sent the girls home with a little sewing themed goody-bag at the end of the camp and I hope they all had as much fun as we did. IMG_0194

Breakfast with the Bunny

We had breakfast with the Easter bunny again this year and it was just as cute as last year.  IMG_0218

Grammy & Pop went with us, and Parker joined the fun, too! IMG_0234IMG_0241

Mamie had a special treat for the bunny…IMG_0237IMG_0243

Tucker wasn’t a huge fan of the after-breakfast pictures. I think he was just ill that the bunny didn’t give him any candy right then. He didn’t know he had to wait until Easter to get his basket. ;)
