We’re Making Progress….

Last Monday, our new wall was up, and the dry wall was finished.

It was painting time! Tuesday, during the day, I painted as much as I could. I had PLENTY of help from this little miss. Have yall painted recently with a 17 month old? It was SOMETHING, to say the least! Ha…

Just to give an idea, this picture was taken after she had me trapped on the ladder. Yes, trapped. I was standing on the top, painting around the ceiling, and AB climbed on the bottom step. She wouldn’t move for ANYTHING, so I had to JUMP from the 3rd step. I know it wasn’t THAT high, but still. Ha…

DW got major husband points when he got home from work, since he was the one to roll the playroom walls with Kiltz and paint both ceilings.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY don’t like painting ceilings.

While we were on our Charleston trip, everything else was being finished at the house!

DW even had the desk and computer set up in the office when I got home! It looks REALLY empty right now, with just the desk and computer…

I want to get 2 bookcases to go on the wall behind the desk on each side, and am hoping to give it a sort of built-in look.

We’re going to have to do something with the computer. I can’t take it just sitting out there beside the desk. My mom suggested building a box around it or something??? I know it can’t stay like it is, because I can’t stand cords. That’s why I love this:

We had an electrical outlet put in on the floor, so that we could plug the computer in and not have cords running across the floor.

I found the desk around Christmas time at a used furniture store for $30.00. When I got home, I told DW I had gotten him a Christmas present. (ha.) Here’s what it looked like when I brought it home:

I wanted a desk with a panel in the front that would look good in the middle of a room. Since this one’s panel was missing, we had to make one. Then we painted it black. I am a firm believer that furniture, no matter how cheap, will look good painted black. I am pleased with it, and hello, for $30.00 who wouldn’t be?!?!?

The best part about moving the office, to me, is that when I’m on the computer, I can look out the front windows.

And here’s the playroom, so far:

I love it for lots of reasons. First, the color. I’m really glad I chose to go with a lighter color in there. It’s so fresh and clean. We also decided to have a wood “landing” put in. This was leftover wood from our previous home.

I love how it turned out and think it will be so sweet with an easel set up on it! I think I will also love not worrying about AB spilling paint on the carpet in the future. But, what I love most, is that it’s like a little piece of our old house in this one. Annabelle is CRAZY about her wood landing…she just marches and stomps and prisses on it every time she goes in there! I can already see one day when our “art days” are over, we’ll be making it a “stage” for her performances. Ha…

I want to have some bookshelves made for the open wall (opposite of the one shown), to keep baskets of toys on. We are going to get that place organized and find a place for all the toys. Then, we are having serious toy-boot-camp around here this summer!

I can’t wait to start hanging stuff on the walls and decorating both the rooms. I have already gotten a few ideas for the playroom. I ordered these alphabet cards from Land of Nod.

There were two sets that I couldn’t decide between. So, I ordered this one (since it’s the set that Carrie also liked, so she said she’d get it, if I didn’t like it) and when it came in, I loved them. Probably just for the ladybug and porcupine playing the fiddle… Ha.. and the armadillo! What alphabet have you ever seen that has an armadillo on it?!?!? Love it. I think it’s very gender-neutral, too. Needless to say, we’re keeping this set, and after the paint had dried last week, I HAD to tack them up just to see what they looked like. I’m planning to hang them around the top of the room.

Maybe I’ll finish these two rooms before the end of summer! Ha…

Y'all've been busy! And Belle looks like she's been the busiest one...perched on that ladder and all. Give that child a break every now and then...don't be working her too hard now. ;o)

It is going to look great when you are finished- I can't wait to see what ideas you come up with. I am stuck on Ava's playroom...maybe I will be inspired by what you do :)

wow... this looks great!!! what a great deal on the desk... you turned it into a masterpiece. i'm super impressed! i have some similar flashcards hung up in hunter's room... i punched holes in each of them and hung them with jute cord. they add so much and they serve a learning purpose = major bonus!!!

p.s. - so glad charleston treated you well! : )
