Memorial Day Weekend

The long weekend was a fun-filled one around here. We’re not big relaxers. I use the term “we” loosely, because actually, I’m a big advocate for a daily nap. But DW likes to be doing something… he’s not one to sit around. It’s one of the things I love about him, though. He works hard, but he also believes in playing hard. He’s got the balance just about perfected in my book.

We started the weekend off on Friday night at Blue Highway. Since we were so close to one of the company’s jobs, of course DW wanted to see it. (Also known as “riding the job.”) The road ran right in front of a park, so we decided to stop and check it out. 2011-05-27_19-30-30_773It was seriously the best park ever. It was nice and shaded by all these big oak trees, and even had the bouncy astro-turf surface around it. AB loved that it had FIVE different slides to pick from. She went down all of them. We are definitely going to make another visit there!

Saturday we had a few errands to run, and then spent the rest of the day at the pool. I did some major working on my first sunburn of the year. I make my family crazy because I believe in starting every summer with a little burn, which usually ends in a BIGGER than I’d hoped for burn, which leads to me whining and DW wanting to choke me. At least I’m predictable.

Sunday morning we’d planned to take a day trip to Caldesi/Honeymoon Island with my parents, but they couldn’t go, so we went over to the condo instead. I forgot my camera, and my FIL didn’t have his either. It’s unheard of for NEITHER of us to have a camera, but it happened, so the only pics I have are from my phone. Sometimes it’s a good break when I forget my camera, though. 2011-05-29_13-52-03_1

AB made us all proud by improving on her sandcastle building skills. She built a whole “subdivision” by herself. 2011-05-29_13-45-44_342By the end of the summer I’m sure she’ll be ready for the sand sculpting competition.

We had a fun day with Pappy & Granny & Aunt Kels before they headed back home. That night, we took a walk on the beach, which Little Miss LOVED… I think it was the feeling of having the beach all to herself. Whatever it was, she loved it! 2011-05-29_19-36-19_3662011-05-29_19-37-02_328

Monday we headed home and spent a couple hours at the pool. Our girl is turning into quite the fish, and her new floatie is the best $15.00 we’ve spent so far this year. DSC_0533It holds her up so good, and she swims all around the pool BY HERSELF with it on! Of course someone stays close by her the whole time, but its so neat that she can “swim” without someone actually holding her.

That afternoon, we headed to my parents’ and for supper, we had a cook out at Granny’s.  My Uncle & his farming partner have watermelons planted on some of Granny’s land and they were loading on Monday, so AB was beyond thrilled to see all the “melon buses” coming in and out. DSC_0564

AB & some of Uncle Jerry’s Trenton Watermelons! :)

The “melon buses” weren’t the only things AB was excited about seeing at Great-Granny’s…

Yep, that’s a gopher. And my girl’s riding it. BAREFOOT. Only in the country. :)

By the long weekend’s end, we’d consumed lots of grilled food, homemade ice cream, corn on the cob, and watermelon…my shoulders were red and my toes were tan. That’s a pretty close to perfect weekend if you ask me.

AB is getting so big, she doesn't look like a baby anymore. So grown up. You all sure did have a busy weekend and looks like you enjoyed it too.

You girls look so pretty in that sunset beach picture. Park, swimming, beach, gopher riding...y'all are such FUN people! :)Both of our boys have that kind of floatie and WE LOVE THEM!!! I can take the boys swimming and not worry about one of them falling in and sinking to the bottom...still very careful though. :)
