Tucker’s First Race

Per tradition, we headed to Daytona as soon as DW got off work on Friday afternoon for the 4th of July weekend.

A few years ago, we stopped by the track on our way down on Friday evening to see some of the race practice runs. We’d hoped to do the same this year, so that Tucker could get his first little taste of a NASCAR race. The Busch series race was actually on Friday night this year, though, instead of the Sprint series practice. (I don’t even know who I am knowing this much about racing. HA!) Anyway, all that to explain that our drive, Kyle Bush wasn’t racing in the race on Friday night, but we decided to still take Tucker.

Pappy rode with us after work and after a quick dinner, we dropped him, AB and Mamie off at the mall. Nie-Nie was going to pick them up there (she had gone on down to the condo earlier with Tay & Kels). I was praying the entire time that Mamie wouldn’t need to go potty while they were walking around the mall waiting on their pick-up, and also praying they didn’t talk Pappy into buying them something crazy while they had him to themselves in a mall. Ha. Ha.

We parked and walked over to the track, and Tucker was pumped from the minute we crossed over to the Speedway. Of course he’d spot the tractors right off the bat.

After some looking around, we made our way to the gate and look who’s car was parked right in the front!

His M&M Car was also parked in front of one of the displays at the bottom of the ramp.

We had great seats and there was hardly anyone else around us. The weather had been rainy, so I think that had a lot to do with it. Tucker loved seeing the cars whizz past us, and then he’d follow them all around each turn until they made their way back to us and he’d say, “heeeerrreee they come!”

We watched for a while, then took him out to get a new hat and sign the start/finish line.

What fun these two will have one day when Tucker’s old enough to start going to the real races with the big boys.
