Swimming & Celebrating…

Saturday was a FULL day. The alarm went off at 6:30 because I had to have AB at the dance studio at 8:00 ready for dance pictures. She looked adorable and I can’t wait to see her at the recital in June!
We came home long enough to change and head to the river. DSCN0679

Mames still isn’t sure about the cold water. DSCN0692
After lunch, we took the boat up to the head and swam for while.DSCN0724 Even I got in and swam, until a floating piece of river grass wrapped itself around my neck and shoulder and I nearly drowned because I thought it was a snake. That was my cue to get back on the boat. AB stayed in the whole time with her Daddy & Pappy. She is a fish – already this summer!DSCN0718She would swim EVERY day if we’d take her.
Mamie kept us all entertained. I wish I could find the right words to describe her. She’s just too much for words. We are SO crazy about her, though! She makes me laugh a hundred times every day.

That evening, DW took the girls over to visit Grandma! DW’s mom was in town for the weekend and everyone met at her house for pizza and swimming. DSCN0732Her pool is perfect for small kids- and because it’s heated, even Mamie swam a little. The girls had the best time. DSCN0746

My Mom and I had a wedding to go to that evening. (My Dad represented us at a college graduation party for one of my other cousins that night). This is the busy time of year! :)
The wedding was beautiful and so sweet. 1
Because I have 22 first cousins (on just my mom's side), there’s quite an age span between all of us. My oldest first cousin is in his mid-forties and my youngest cousin is still in middle school. Anyway, the wedding was one of my cousin’s daughters. It’s just crazy to me that I have (first) cousin’s with children getting married! We’re all getting OLD! :) But I’ve been riding the “getting old” train long enough. It’s time to accept it and quit beating a dead horse. :)Although, I’m pretty sure it’s hard for my mom to believe, too… because during the wedding she leaned over and said, “Why isn’t Zo (her sister) doing the sand thing?” --- I had to remind her my Aunt was the GRANDMOTHER of the bride, not the MOTHER! It’s hard to believe that at our family weddings from here on out, my aunts, uncles and parents will be the GRANDPARENTS not the parents!
The bride rode up on a horse that her Daddy was leading and it was the sweetest thing. I nearly did the ugly cry when he helped her down from it and walked her down the isle. 4
This was the first wedding I’ve been to that I saw through a different lens.
I think that the way we view things changes with age and life’s experiences, especially depending on which season of life we’re in.
DW and I just celebrated 10 years of marriage and like most girls, weddings make me all mushy inside and make me remember the sweetness of my own. But this wedding made me panic a little when I thought about my own two daughters and the fact that it will one day be DW and I listed on the program as parents of the bride. A bittersweet feeling, I am sure.
My heart ached at that thought as I watched my cousin and his wife all evening. 3My mom said it best when she said, “it just comes so fast” – I have a feeling I’ll be saying the same thing when the day comes at our house. :)
The bride was gorgeous and the new couple seem so in love and happy. It was so sweet to see. I, like most girls, LOVE a wedding! :)2We had a great time catching up with family we don’t get to see often enough. At the reception, we got to sit with my great-Aunt and any time spent around my Papa’s siblings is precious. It’s like having a little piece of him still with us. I got a picture of my mom, my Aunt ZoAnn (grandmother of the bride) and my uncle Jerry together. ImageOne of their cousins was sitting at the table with us and pointed out that they are the first, middle and last of their family (there's 6 others scattered between then). I hadn’t thought about it, but they are!
We stayed until they cut the cake and then made the drive home. It was a great night and the highlight was definitely just getting to be with my mom! It’s not often we get to off by ourselves! :)

Wednesday Things & I Phone Pics…

We had the busiest weekend that we’ve had in a long time. I’m catching up on everything around the house and trying to catch up on blogging, too… It’s hard to recap everything, but since this serves as the “scrapbook” for our family, I try. More on the busy weekend later…today its catching up the two weeks before…

- The Friday/Saturday after my birthday, I had yet another celebration. Carrie had told me to save the date for an overnight trip, but she didn’t tell me where we were going until a few days before when she sent me this… girls card

On a related note, we’ve done so much celebrating me lately, that I am officially sick of myself. I feel like my poor family has had three solid weeks of “The Annie Show.” (Having a birthday, mother’s day and an anniversary all within two weeks of each other always humbles me big time. I am so undeserving of the wonderful family and friends I have!)

Back to the last 30th celebration -

Carrie and I started a tradition of an overnight trip when Katie turned 30. Then last year Katie and I planned one for Carrie, and so this year they planned mine. The girls planned a little getaway to Apalachicola. katie annie and carrieThey said they wanted a relaxed, yet coastal vibe for the trip and Apalachicola was perfect for that. 10

8We shopped, ate and slept. Three components of my idea of a great time. ImageWe laughed and talked and my favorite part may have been late Friday night watching “Say Yes to the Dress” while all piled on top of the King sized bed with our boxes of chocolates in our lap.photoI guess our next big milestone birthdays will be 40. We’d might better make those trips two-night getaways. Thank you friends for such a fun celebration!

- Mother’s Day… This year, the whole day, the song “Blessed Be Your Name” kept playing over and over in my head.

“You give and take away. You give and take away. My heart will CHOOSE to say Blessed Be Your name”

It’s always a hard day, but a sweet one, too. A picnic in the park and frozen yogurt afterward were highlights. 2

I am so thankful for the son who called me “my momma” ca– and the daughters who call me “Momma,” too…ama (even though the oldest one has started calling me “Mother Gothel” (Tangled’s wicked mother) sometimes now when I ask her to pick up her toys. :)

Mother’s Day is not one of my favorite days… But I do know that I was blessed with the best Mom and the best grandmother19

-  Mamie loves riding up our drive way and seeing the cows. She immediately starts “MOOOOOing” from the backseat EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. It’s adorable. She loves it when I roll the windows down and drive by real slow. 4

- Speaking of the cows… the ones in front of our house are having babies left and right! & to me, there’s nothing sweeter than BABIES!!!! (of ANY kind!) :)  The girls and I were headed out one day last week and one of the mama cows had just had her calf (and she had it right by the drive way, so it was perfect for an up close look)  It was the sweetest thing. 1It made me laugh how all the other cows were standing around them. It looked just like the waiting room at North Florida when my babies were all born. We are so THOSE PEOPLE… You know the ones who bring the Chick-fil-a party tray and 15 people to the waiting room. I did feel bad, though, for the new mama cow because she had poop all over her back (and to make it worse, due to the poop’s location up by her front legs, it was obviously not her own). I hated that all the other cows had to see her in such a mess…which reminded me of when AB was born and I was in recovery from my c-section. I was SO OUT OF IT and still a little loopy. It was just me and my friend Crystal, who was the nurse monitoring me during that hour of recovery, which is where I heard this story, since I don’t remember any of it! :) As it goes, I kept dozing in and out and one time I looked up to see a sample cup of my “tee-tee” just hanging out on the TV stand. Apparently, I looked at her with the most serious look and said, “Crystal, I’m going to need you to do me a little favor and go put that tee-tee somewhere else…because my Daddy and my father-in-law will be coming in here any minute and I’d just have to lay here and die if they saw that.” That poor cow didn’t have a friend to help her out but thankfully I did. Those cute baby calves make my day every time I pull up the drive way and they even make dodging cow poop worth it.

- Fantastic news! I came across this flavor Haagen Dazs ice cream and thought I’d give it a try. It tastes exactly like the ice cream I feel in love with in the Disney Cruise! It’s so yummy and tastes like summer in a bowl.

Thirty…

I’ve always been excited about birthdays. Until last year, when I turned 29.

I was that much closer to 30 and it was the LAST year in my twenties! There just seems to be pressure when you know something is your last. A whole new decade of my life was right around the corner and all year I’ve dreaded it. I just feel like 30 means you really ARE a grown-up… nobody ever mistakes you for being younger than you are anymore and every young cashier and waiter/waitress call you ma’am…and they MEAN it, because to them you really ARE that much older than them.

Despite my best efforts to delay it’s coming or to have everyone forget about it, it came anyway…and to tell you the truth, it wasn’t as bad as I imagined after all. (AND I’m four days into my thirties and haven’t started menopause yet, so I think I’m going to be alright!) :)12

I felt cheesy writing “Happy Birthday Annie” to myself on this chalkboard in our kitchen… so I borrowed some words from Alan Jackson instead. :)

Friday morning, I woke up to Birthday breakfast in bed. DW had set his alarm for 5:30 that morning to get up and make me pancakes and bacon. He even went as far as to make sure we had bottled cokes in the house…(he knows I’m not much on orange juice, even at breakfast). :)

He also carried with him a bouquet of roses and a DVD.20

He popped the DVD in the player and I cried from the beginning. 11

The movie started with my big girl singing Happy Birthday to me and it was the sweetest thing…Not to be left out, even Mames had a little yell in it. The next 10 minutes were filled with Happy Birthday messages from sweet friends and precious family. It was so sweet.

I had made sure everyone knew I wanted NO PARTY- but DW still wanted to do something, so he had everyone send him videos of birthday messages. It was the sweetest. I seriously, cried through the whole video (and laughed, too)…it made me very thankful for all the wonderful people I have been blessed to have in my life.

The girls and I met Carrie, Allie & Whitt for Birthday lunch.13 It was at McAlisters, because I turned 30 and we thought we should step it up from last year’s Chick-fil-A at the mall food court. :)

That afternoon, the doorbell rang and a florist delivered flowers all the way from across the pond. 8Well, from Dunnellon, but they were ordered from England. So sweet of Steph & Henry. On an email earlier in the week, when we were discussing my hunt for wrinkle cream, she also encouraged me to just go buy some new eye shadow because “wrinkle cream doesn’t even work until you’re like 40 or something”… great advice. :)

My day was filled with calls, texts, emails, and facebook wishes for a Happy Birthday and it was all really sweet.

I got some other fun surprises in the mail and from my in-laws, too…15

We had dinner reservations that night at Ipanema, the Brazilian steakhouse. My Dad said he wanted to take us somewhere special for my 30th…I didn’t know our reservations were for 3 more people, though!

When my parents got to our house to pick us up, I was still in the back getting dressed. I heard a familiar voice, but it wasn’t my mom or dad’s.

How fun to find my big brother, Beau, and SIL, Kristy and sweet nephew Garrett waiting in the living room!

18

19

Me and the two peeps who started it all…

We ate dinner and then came back to our house for cake and ice cream. My mom made an Italian Cream Cake and the toasted pecans in the icing sent it over the top. It was SO GOOD and I just ate another piece this morning for breakfast. 17

There were THIRTY, count ‘em, THIRTY candles on the cake. I blew them all out and the smoke filled our kitchen. We had to turn on the stove vent to keep the fire alarm from going off. No joke.

I was super excited that my parents got me a Clarisonic… 16I’ve been wanting one and had told DW that I was going to ask for bday $$ to buy one with. He put a bug in my mom’s ear, and it was a fun surprise! My Dad said he thought it was for “buffing wrinkles out”… Let’s hope it works for that, too!

Some of my sweet Georgia family sent a few surprise with Beau & Kristy and that was fun, too!

I thought DW had already given me my gift (the underwater camera), but in his birthday card, I got another surprise!

A sweet note outlining our weekend plans! So fun! 10

I went to bed Friday night feeling very loved and very blessed…

Saturday morning we met my parents to drop the girls off and we headed for Orlando.

The first stop on the agenda was test driving a VW Beetle. (My first car was a red beetle and I have always told DW that someday, I’ve got to have another one!)…he tried to rent one for my birthday getaway, but he couldn’t find one through a rental car company, so we did the next best thing.5 He was even found a dealership that had a RED one! We drove a black convertible one and a silver turbo one. (The red one was parked in their back lot, so we didn’t get to drive it)… I don’t know what was more fun; remembering my youth or pretending like we might actually get one of these soon! Ha! Ha! 6

We checked into our hotel and since the weather was rainy, I settled in with a magazine and some skittles. It was perfect. I was hoping to get to lay out by the pool and get some sun, but a lazy afternoon was just as great.

After dinner, we headed for Downtown Disney to see Cirque du Soleil – La Nouba. 9

We were early, so we walked around for a little bit, got some ice cream and picked out a prize for the girls (charms for their Disney bracelets).

Finally it was time for the show. 1We found our seats and then a couple of clowns came out. It was painfully cheesy and made us really worried about how the show was going to be. Clowns are NOT our thing by a long shot… They make me REALLY uneasy and DW isn’t a fan either. We knew there’d be some faces painted, but we weren’t really expecting the big shoes and red noses, too. After those clowns finished their little before the show- show, the real event started. 2

It was SO GOOD. I loved it. It was amazing what the performers could do… the music was great and the acts were incredible. After each one I kept thinking, “okay that was my favorite” and then another one would come out and I’d say the same thing… They prohibit ANY pictures (flash or no flash), so I had to sneak and take a couple being the rebel that I am, but that’s the reason I have no good pictures to share. :)  There was also so much going on at one time, it was hard to know where to look. I’m pretty sure you could go back a dozen times and still not see everything in the show! It was so good.

Sunday we slept in late thanks to a dark hotel room. It was around 11:00 when we checked out and we decided to get some early lunch at The Cheesecake Factory before heading back. It’s a favorite of mine, so it made perfect sense since it was my birthday weekend and all. :)

DW even let me stream my ITunes on the way home and he suffered through two hours of my singing. He rolls his eyes at my song collection, but I’m not fooled by it. I know he enjoys it when I’m playing DJ. :)

It was a fantastic weekend filled with lots of celebrating and fun, and if that’s what 30 is all about, then I am in!

Our Disney Cruise–Part II

Arrrggghhh! It wasn’t a lie when I said there was more pirate fun!

After the pirate deck party, it was time for the show. DSC_5480

Friday night’s show was called “Villains Tonight” and was really good. I was worried it might be scary to the girls, but it was really cute and really funny. Mamie loved it and I left a little worried that she enjoyed the villains so much. :)

Later that night (@ 10:30), was another pirate celebration and the fireworks, “Buccaneer Blast”! The girls stayed up and did great. AB loved the fireworks and they didn’t scare Mamie at all. Disney fireworks in the middle of the ocean…Pretty awesome. Dinsey 2013 191There was a full moon that night and it was such a sweet gift.Dinsey 2013 185 The moon always makes us think of our Cooper. Even at the happiest most fun times, part of us will always ache knowing he’s not with us. I always say I’ll choose bittersweet over just plain bitter any day, though.

We went straight to bed after the fireworks and nobody had to rock any of us to sleep…

Saturday we woke up to see the most gorgeous view out of our magical porthole… DSC_5489We were docked at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. DW went to breakfast and brought us something back to the room. DSC_5487We wanted the girls to sleep as late as possible since we wanted to stay on Castaway as long as we could that day. After everyone was up, we made our way to the island. DSCN0388

DSCN0390

AB couldn’t believe how green the water was. DSCN0392She kept saying, “That water is GOOOORGEOUS!!!” Dinsey 2013 242My thoughts exactly.

We decided to walk and not take the tram in…DSCN0395it was a beautiful walk and we even ran into some friends along the way…DSCN0396

DSCN0406

We finally found the rest of the gang and settled in for the day.

The guys all braved the water first…it was pretty chilly, but refreshing. :)DSCN0418

AB insisted she needed a float, so her Daddy rented one. DSCN0441She and Mamie both had the best time on it. My mom found these matching swimsuits for the girls and they were the cutest girls on the island in them! :)

DSCN0415

DSCN0450

DW and the girls gave me my birthday present a week early this year! I got a new underwater camera and they gave it to me so we’d have it on the cruise. It made it great for getting pictures in the water. It’s the same one they got me LAST year for my birthday (I LOVED it all summer and then lost it in August…I was so sad, but excited to get a replacement this year!!!) :)

Image

AB was really glad that we have another underwater camera, because she got used to taking pictures last summer. Here’s one she took at Castaway..DSCN0507

We were all spread out, but she made everyone “squeeze together” and “get in close..” she was too funny telling us what to do (you’d think she’s had a camera in her face since the day she was born or something…) :)

DW and I took our girls to the splash area to play…Mames and AB both loved it! DSCN0500

DSCN0476

DSCN0498

AB also loved that Taylor hung with us…

DSCN0504

On our way to the splash park we ran into Captain Jack Sparrow…who gave AB some treasure, which she calls “Golden Balloons” (Gold doubloons). DSCN0474

Lunch was our next stop.

We’d checked out all the activities going on that day on the island, and had decided to go to the character dance party and to the crab races. When we got to the first gazebo for the dance party, it wasn’t very crowded at all--- it made it perfect for seeing Mickey, Minnie and Daisy when they came up…DSCN0512 it also gave AB a good chance at dancing with them! DSCN0518

DSCN0522After one freestyle song, they started the cupid shuffle – AB tried to keep up, but was happy when Nie-Nie jumped in and saved her. :)

DSCN0532 The conga-line was next and then another couple free style songs…DSCN0573

After the dance party, we had to head back to the other gazebo for the crab races. We totally lucked out and got in line quick enough to get to have a crab! If you’re one of the 8 groups to get a crab, you get to name it. I told AB we should name our crab a pirate name – and she said “Captain Hook” was the best pirate name she knew. :)  Probably the only pirate she knows (other than Jake), but still, she did good naming him. Everyone in the crowd loved his name, too and there were lots of cheers for Hook! :)DSCN0587

DSCN0595 They put the crabs in the middle circle and then they race to the outer edge. DSCN0596Captain Hook won the first race! I was jumping up and down and AB was just standing there, not sure of what happened. Ha… DSCN0601They do a couple more rounds to see who will end up in the finals… The championship was totally stolen from us when Captain Hook came out of the box on his back! He finally got flipped over and started heading for the line, but ended up coming in second. Dern. It was really fun though and I was so glad we got to do it. AB was just worried about getting a drink after the race, but later that night she told me the crab races were her favorite part of the day. :)DSCN0606

We got ice cream after, because it’s just what you do when there’s an unlimited amount of soft-serve and cones. That was for sure Mamie’s favorite part of the day…note she has two cones below…one with ice cream and one without. :)Dinsey 2013 250

The line for the water slides was gone, so DW, Pappy, Adam & Elliott went to do those.DSCN0609 DSCN0619They had the best time and even when I couldn’t see them, I could hear them laughing. DSCN0623

Pappy even got a bonus sinus cleaning when he came down one time…DSCN0616

Around 2:30, we started packing up and heading back to the ship in different groups, but we took one group picture before we split up again…Dinsey 2013 266

Mamie and DW laid down for naps, but me and AB got off the boat again DSC_5526to take a few more pictures and to mail our post card from the Castaway Cay post office! DSC_5490So fun… DSC_5492She wanted to mail a postcard to Grammy & Pop and insisted on writing it herself. So sweet…DSC_5499

While we were walking back up to the boat, Captain Hook and Mr. Smee came walking down the gangway!DSC_5500 So fun…DSC_5509

DSC_5516

Dinner our last night, was in the Enchanted Garden dining room.DSC_5549

Two little girls had some red sun-kissed cheeks that night! I just knew DCF was going to be coming to take them from me at any minute…

Dinsey 2013 285

After dinner, it was back to the room to do some packing… Boo!DSC_5558 I seriously could have stayed another couple days…and that rarely happens anywhere for me! (By day three of being anywhere, I’m almost always ready to come home).

After packing, it was show time! DSC_5588The show that night was “Disney’s Believe” ---it was so precious and although I tear-ed up during the previous two nights shows (Disney always makes me cry!), I did the full cry at the end of this one. (I was really glad I had to take Mamie to stand in the back of the theatre, by that point!) :)  It was such a sweet story line about the magic of childhood and how love makes everything grow and the little girl grew up and it seemed like it was just yesterday that her Daddy was playing in the yard with her… and there we were with our little girls, who will be grown in the blink of an eye… it was just a sweet reminder to savor every single stage and to make making memories a priority. It was just one of those “my heart is so full it might bust” moments because for the past two days, that’s exactly what we’d been doing. It was nothing short of magical to hear our four year old gasp and giggle as “Tinkerbell” fluttered above the audience that night or when our 16 month old threw her head back and squealed every night at dinner when the waiter sat down a bowl of ice cream and sprinkles in front of her. Dinsey 2013 134(We learned that Mamie does love her some Mickey Mouse sprinkles!)

Even the stages that bring 4 year old temper tantrums that lead to “I’m so mad at you! You’re not my daddy anymore!” right on the middle of amazing Castaway Cay are precious. (That’s a true story, to keep this real)…  Or the stage that brings the realization that “it’s going to be a LOOOOONNNGGGG time before you get to eat your own dinner while it’s hot!” (I’m looking at you, Mamie Girl!)…They’re all part of growing up and you have to take the good with the bad. (kind of like being part of a family…)

Trips and making memories at this point in our little family’s lives takes a lot of work…there’s no relaxing with little ones, but it’s so worth it. We’re blessed to have family that help us out, too. Everybody pitches in and grabs a bag or a hand when they need to and I’m thankful for all of them. I’m not the best at accepting help…I’m a do-it-myself-er all the way, and I feel like our children are mine and DW’s responsibility, but its so nice to know we have family who love our kids so much and gladly help us out.

That show had my heart full for sure. Like I said, it was just precious. As badly as we didn’t want to admit it, though, our trip was coming to an end… It was time to finish packing…& change Mamie’s diaper! Whew---

When we got back to the room that night, another surprise was waiting for the girls…DSC_5587

I’d read about how you could take a pillowcase to guest services on the first night and they would have all the characters sign it and return it to your room on the last night of the cruise. I was all set to do the pillowcases for the girls, but then I thought of something that would be even better for us… I knew the pillowcases would be cute, but there’s no way I’d put it out on their beds (I’m still way too OCD about how their rooms are decorated and a signed pillow case doesn’t exactly match their Pottery Barn Kids duvets… Ha… Not to mention what if the permanent marker ink bled on the said duvets? Yeah- not happening.) Anyway, I tried to think of what we could do other than a pillowcase and a few days before the cruise it hit me… a photo matte! We bought this signable photo matte from Michaels for like $5.00 and took a pack of colored sharpies, turned it in to guest services and just like they said, they had everyone sign it and had it delivered to our cabin the last night! I cannot wait to get a picture of the girls from the cruise printed and frame this in our playroom!!!)

Two jammied-up girls loved finding chocolates on our pillows every night. DSC_5617Thankfully Mames didn’t discover them until the last two nights. DSC_5612The last night I just let her loose with them… I mean it WAS VACATION!!!

The last big event on the ship was the “Farewell Friends” in the lobby that night at 10:00. DW and Mamie went on to bed, but I took AB (in her jammies) to the party. It was fun seeing all the characters come down the staircase and wave goodbye, not to mention do something fun with just my big girl. After their little performance, they all scattered around the lobby for meet and greets. AB wanted to see Minnie Mouse. DSC_5631I was glad, too, because the cruise just wouldn’t feel complete without a picture of Cruise Minnie!

On our way back to the room, we also saw Belle. AB wanted to see her, too, and since her line only had 3 people in it, why not? DSC_5636

The trip was wonderful and we definitely want to do it again one day! I’d recommend it to anyone! It was perfect, too, for a big group. There was literally something for EVERYONE… It worked out great because we could all do our own things and do what best suited our little families, but then every night we knew dinner would be together and there were activities (like the shows) that we did as a big group. I can’t say enough good things about the Disney cruise.

2

Thank you, Pappy & Nie-Nie for such a great trip and all the wonderful memories!
