Our Elf always comes by December 1st. Some years he’s been on top of it and arrives the day after Thanksgiving, sometimes it’s the weekend after, but the past couple of years, we’re just real glad he makes it by the first of December.
The first day he shows up, he always brings a North Pole Breakfast with him. It always includes powdered sugar donuts. Which is a super good thing because they happen to be my favorite, too. ;)
Elf-Elf doesn’t get too rowdy like some people’s elves or cause too much mischief. I’m glad because I have enough to clean up after without adding Elf antics. He’s more of a best-dressed Elf and has quite the wardrobe and an extensive collection of Elf-sized props. Ha.
He also makes good use of the kids’ toys throughout December, too.
Some days we find him just hanging out in the Christmas decorations or stuffed in some random place…
On a few days this year, he left the kids some super cute Elf-themed treats. He must have seen these dirt-cheap at Ollie’s because I did, too. ;)
Elf-Elf has always been ready to party on each of the girls’ birthdays…
He always makes sure to bow down and adore baby Jesus, and on Christmas Eve, he always sets up the kids’ Nativity on the fireplace before heading back to the North Pole.
There are some days when the kids wake up to find Elf-Elf sitting in the same spot he was the day before. Usually we blame someone for touching him…before he could talk and defend himself, it was always Tucker. I’m afraid those days are over now that Tucker can argue back that he DIDN"T touch the elf! Some days we blame it on his busy schedule and assume Elf-Elf was just too tired to move, or maybe he hadn’t made it back from the North Pole yet. Some nights DW and I look at each in bed with wide eyes and jump up at the same time… THE ELF! and run to “make sure” he moved. Some days I wish we hadn’t subjected ourselves to the craziness of it, but every day when the kids jump up to run and see what he’s gotten into or where he’s hiding, I’m always glad we did.
These are the days and the silliness and fun that years from now, I’ll look back on and wish them back.
