Summer’s Almost Over!

We took one last Summer trip to see Beau’s gang before school starts back for all of us. IMG_6134

We’ve also been itching to get up to Georgia since June, when Elizabeth was born! We couldn’t let too many weeks pass by before we introduced ourselves!

Grammy & Pop worked half a day on Thursday and we left as soon as they got home. I hate leaving DW at home working when it’s a trip that he’s not going on – but he’s always good to let us go play as much as we can.  ;)

We made great time, but it was still 10:00 before we made it to Aunt Kay’s. We were met with the cutest welcome sign at the road and Anna had set up a whole Barbie town for the girls in the room they were staying in. It was adorable.

After a good night’s sleep, we headed over to Steph’s to spend a few hours. IMG_6404IMG_6080There is nothing sweeter than a new baby- except a new baby who belongs to someone you love so much. After seeing Steph find her groove being a boy-mom, it’s so sweet to know she’ll get to experience being a girl-mom, too. Elizabeth is just precious and I swear she looked up at me and smiled back when I smiled at her. Sweetness. IMG_6068

IMG_6086We let the boys play and then I made a Chick-fil-A run to bring lunch back.

We hit the road in time for the boys’ to have their nap time and we all met back up that evening for dinner at Aunt Kay’s. IMG_6421We sat around the table way past our bed times with Gabe & Amy and it was the best just catching up and laughing.

On Saturday morning, we picked Beau & the boys up and drove up to Helen. I had suggested we “shoot the ‘hooch” in Helen, but Beau said it was a terrible idea. Instead we decided on a hike up to Anna Ruby Falls and a picnic lunch by the creek there. Once we made it through Helen and I saw how low the Chattahoochee was, I agreed, tubing would have been a terrible idea. IMG_6109It was literally ankle deep and everyone who was trying to tube were all getting stuck on the rocks.

We made the right call going up to Anna Ruby. IMG_6116The hike up to the falls took about 30 minutes. It was hot, but there was a nice mountain coolness too, blowing off the falls. It was great weather. IMG_6122IMG_6156IMG_6146IMG_6221It was beautiful at the top. IMG_6166IMG_6175

When we made it up to the top deck for a picture, there was a whole big group of foreigners. They went crazy over the girls’ hair bows. They wanted their picture taken with them, which I thought was a little odd. Ha. But, my girls who love to act like they’re Disney characters and pose for pictures were happy to oblige.

After our picnic, we made our way back down to Helen for a stop at the fudge shop. IMG_6281There’s not much more I love about mountain tourist towns than a fudge shop.

We spent the rest of the afternoon helping Steph get ready for Hank’s birthday party. We were super excited that Hank’s birthday happened to be the weekend we were up, and we got to crash his party, too! ;)

It was such a fun evening letting the kids run and play and it still blows my mind that my cousins and I are now the “moms and dads.”  Looking at the kids’ table was literally like looking back in time. IMG_6255IMG_6257While it feels like a million years ago that we were all running around shirtless and sweaty, it also feels like just yesterday. IMG_6329Good times and sweet memories. IMG_6360

On Sunday morning, we packed up and headed home. And just like we’ve been doing for over three decades, we wished we could click our heels and be home. No such luck, but we made it – and it’s always my favorite part of any trip. ;)IMG_6254
