We set Christmas with DW’s mom to be on the weekend before Christmas several years ago. We used to always have Christmas with her on Christmas Eve, but now that everyone has little kids of their own, we wanted Christmas Eve for our own traditions and to get ready for Christmas Day. The weekend before works out really good because it kicks off our Christmas week and it spreads things out for the kids, too. Instead of two jam packed days of presents and food and family craziness, they get it spread out- and its always nice to spread the good things out as long as you can!
Sometimes we all ride together or at least follow each other, but this year everyone did their own travel thing. We left after DW got off work and made it to the farm in Georgia late Friday night.
Saturday morning the girls played around the house (the lift-assist chair was a hit with them! ha!) and did some last minute decorating for Grandma. She had been working up until the day before, so she hadn’t even had time to get her tree up yet. The boys wanted to help and I thought it was the perfect opportunity for one of those cute Pinterest photos. Ours didn’t exactly turn out. ;)
After that, we let the boys run around outside. The were so excited when Uncle Summy pulled up on a tractor and took them for a ride. He didn’t have to ask twice if they wanted to go with him.
We had our Christmas lunch and opened gifts.
We spent the rest of the day hanging around and visiting. There were some games of Pie Face Dual and Say What? going on…
We made a trip down to one of the Pittman cousins’ hog pens to see this monster and it’s babies…AB wanted to know what was wrong with it’s “hiney” so I’ll spare anyone who sees this and crop it out. Ha. Our kids see plenty of cows, but never hogs, so they loved seeing that giant hog!
On Sunday, we went to church with Grandma and then to a big church breakfast at her cousins’ place. It was really good and we all enjoyed seeing some of the extended family on that side.
We stopped on our way back to Grandma’s to get a picture of the kids in this patch of “Southern Snow.”
It was another great South Georgia Christmas.
